Noun zōē (life) in the Gospels-Acts

(Translation from NRSV for the New Testament with a few modifications for a more litteral meaning)


Matthew

7: 14For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life (zōē), and there are few who find it.
18: 8"If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life (zōē) maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and to be thrown into the eternal fire.
18: 9And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life (zōē) with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into the hell of fire.
19: 16Then someone came to him and said, "Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life (zōē)?"
19: 17And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you wish to enter into life (zōē), keep the commandments."
19: 29And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life (zōē).
25: 46And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life (zōē)."

Mark

Luke

John

1: 4in him was life (zōē), and the life (zōē) was the light of all people.

Acts

2: 28You have made known to me the ways of life (zōē); you will make me full of gladness with your presence.'
3: 15and you killed the Author of life (zōē), whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.
5: 20"Go, stand in the temple and tell the people the whole message about this life (zōē)."
8: 33In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life (zōē) is taken away from the earth."
11: 18When they heard this, they were silenced. And they praised God, saying, "Then God has given even to the Gentiles the repentance that leads to life (zōē)."
13: 46Then both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, "It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken first to you. Since you reject it and judge yourselves to be unworthy of eternal life (zōē), we are now turning to the Gentiles.
13: 48When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and praised the word of the Lord; and as many as had been destined for eternal life (zōē) became believers.
17: 25nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life (zōē) and breath and all things.

John

1: 1We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life (zōē)
1: 2this life (zōē) was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life (zōē) that was with the Father and was revealed to us
2: 25And this is what he has promised us, eternal life (zōē).
3: 14We know that we have passed from death to life (zōē) because we love one another. Whoever does not love abides in death.
3: 15All who hate a brother or sister are murderers, and you know that murderers do not have eternal life (zōē) abiding in them.
5: 11And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life (zōē), and this life (zōē) is in his Son.
5: 12Whoever has the Son has life (zōē); whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life (zōē).
5: 13I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life (zōē).
5: 16If you see your brother or sister committing what is not a mortal sin, you will ask, and God will give life (zōē) to such a one - to those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin that is mortal; I do not say that you should pray about that.
5: 20And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life (zōē).
