Words on clothing in Marc

(Translation from NRSV for the New Testament with a few modifications for a more litteral meaning)


stolē (long robe)

12: 38As he taught, he said, "Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes (stolē), and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,
16: 5As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe (stolē), sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.

himation (cloak, clothes)

2: 21"No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak (himation); otherwise, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made.
5: 27She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak (himation),
5: 28for she said, "If I but touch his clothes (himation), I will be made well."
5: 30Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, "Who touched my clothes (himation)?"
6: 56And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak (himation); and all who touched it were healed.
9: 3and his clothes (himation) became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them.
10: 50So throwing off his cloak (himation), he sprang up and came to Jesus.

chitōn (tunic)

6: 9but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics (chitōn).
