Verb peirazō (to try, to test) in the New Testament

(Translation from NRSV for the New Testament with a few modifications for a more litteral meaning)


Matthew

4: 1Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tested (peirazō) by the devil.
4: 3The one testing (peirazō) came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread."
16: 1The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test (peirazō) Jesus they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.
19: 3Some Pharisees came to him, and to test (peirazō) him they asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause?"
22: 18But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why are you putting me to the test (peirazō), you hypocrites?

Mark

Luke

1 Corinthians

7: 5Do not deprive one another except perhaps by agreement for a set time, to devote yourselves to prayer, and then come together again, so that Satan may not test (peirazō) you because of your lack of self-control.
10: 9We must not put Christ to the test (peirazō), as some of them did, and were destroyed by serpents.
10: 13No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested (peirazō) beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it.

Galatians

6: 1My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tested (peirazō).

Hebrews

2: 18Because he himself was tested (peirazō) by what he suffered, he is able to help those who are being tested (peirazō).
