Conjunction hina (so that) to express a goal in John

(Translation from NRSV for the New Testament with a few modifications for a more literal meaning)


John

1: 7He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that (hina) all might believe through him.
3: 15so that (hina) whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
3: 16"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that (hina) everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
3: 21But those who do what is true come to the light, so that (hina) it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God."
4: 15The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that (hina) I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water."
5: 23so that (hina) all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Anyone who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.
6: 12When they were satisfied, he told his disciples, "Gather up the fragments left over, so that (hina) nothing may be lost."
9: 3Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that (hina) God's works might be revealed in him.

17: 21so that (hina) they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that (hina) the world may believe that you have sent me.
