The noun anthrōpos (man / somone) in Matthew

(Translation from NRSV for the New Testament with a few modifications for a more literal meaning)


4: 4But he answered, "It is written, 'Man (anthrōpos) does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
4: 19And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fish for men (anthrōpos)."
5: 13"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under men (anthrōpos).
5: 16In the same way, let your light shine before men (anthrōpos), so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
5: 19Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men (anthrōpos) to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
6: 1"Beware of practicing your piety before men (anthrōpos) in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
6: 2"So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by men (anthrōpos). Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.
6: 5"And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by men (anthrōpos). Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.
6: 14For if you forgive men (anthrōpos) their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you;
6: 15but if you do not forgive men (anthrōpos), neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
6: 16"And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show men (anthrōpos) that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.
6: 18so that your fasting may be seen not by men (anthrōpos) but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
7: 9Is there anyone (anthrōpos) among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone?
7: 12"In everything do to men (anthrōpos) as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets.
8: 9For I also am a man (anthrōpos) under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes, and to another, 'Come,' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this,' and the slave does it."
8: 20And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man (anthrōpos) has nowhere to lay his head."
8: 27They were amazed, saying, "What sort of man (anthrōpos) is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?"
9: 6But so that you may know that the Son of Man (anthrōpos) has authority on earth to forgive sins" - he then said to the paralytic - "Stand up, take your bed and go to your home."
9: 8When the crowds saw it, they were filled with awe, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men (anthrōpos).
9: 9As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man (anthrōpos) called Matthew sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him.
9: 32After they had gone away, a demonic man (anthrōpos) who was mute was brought to him.
10: 17Beware of men (anthrōpos), for they will hand you over to councils and flog you in their synagogues;
10: 23When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next; for truly I tell you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man (anthrōpos) comes.
10: 32"Everyone therefore who acknowledges me before men (anthrōpos), I also will acknowledge before my Father in heaven;
10: 33but whoever denies me before men (anthrōpos), I also will deny before my Father in heaven.
10: 35For I have come to set a man (anthrōpos) against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
10: 36and one's foes will be men (anthrōpos) of one's own household.
11: 8What then did you go out to see? Someone (anthrōpos) dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear soft robes are in royal palaces.
11: 19the Son of Man (anthrōpos) came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton man (anthrōpos) and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds."
12: 8For the Son of Man (anthrōpos) is lord of the sabbath."
12: 10a man (anthrōpos) was there with a withered hand, and they asked him, "Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath?" so that they might accuse him.
12: 11He said to them, "Suppose one (anthrōpos) of you has only one sheep and it falls into a pit on the sabbath; will you not lay hold of it and lift it out?
12: 12How much more valuable is a man (anthrōpos) than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the sabbath."
12: 13Then he said to the man (anthrōpos), "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and it was restored, as sound as the other.
12: 31Therefore I tell you, men (anthrōpos) will be forgiven for every sin and blasphemy, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
12: 32Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man (anthrōpos) will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
12: 35The good man (anthrōpos) brings good things out of a good treasure, and the evil man (anthrōpos) brings evil things out of an evil treasure.
12: 36I tell you, on the day of judgment men (anthrōpos) will have to give an account for every careless word they utter;
12: 40For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so for three days and three nights the Son of Man (anthrōpos) will be in the heart of the earth.
12: 43"When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man (anthrōpos), it wanders through waterless regions looking for a resting place, but it finds none.
12: 45Then it goes and brings along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and live there; and the last state of that man (anthrōpos) is worse than the first. So will it be also with this evil generation."
13: 24He put before them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone (anthrōpos) who sowed good seed in his field;
13: 25but while everybody (anthrōpos) was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away.
13: 28He answered, 'An enemy man (anthrōpos) has done this.' The slaves said to him, 'Then do you want us to go and gather them?'
13: 31He put before them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone (anthrōpos) took and sowed in his field;
13: 37He answered, "The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man (anthrōpos);
13: 41The Son of Man (anthrōpos) will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers,
13: 44"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone (anthrōpos) found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
13: 45"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant man (anthrōpos) in search of fine pearls;
13: 52And he said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master man (anthrōpos) of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old."
15: 9in vain do they worship me, teaching precepts from men (anthrōpos) as doctrines.'"
15: 11it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man (anthrōpos), but it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles a man (anthrōpos)."
15: 18But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this is what defiles a man (anthrōpos).
15: 20These are what defile a man (anthrōpos), but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man (anthrōpos)."
16: 13Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do men (anthrōpos) say that the Son of Man (anthrōpos) is?"
16: 23But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on men (anthrōpos)."
16: 26For what will profit a man (anthrōpos) if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will a man (anthrōpos) give in return for their life?
16: 27"For the Son of Man (anthrōpos) is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay everyone for what has been done.
16: 28Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man (anthrōpos) coming in his kingdom."
17: 9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, "Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man (anthrōpos) has been raised from the dead."
17: 12but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but they did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man (anthrōpos) is about to suffer at their hands."
17: 14When they came to the crowd, a man (anthrōpos) came to him, knelt before him,
17: 22As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man (anthrōpos) is going to be betrayed into hands of men (anthrōpos),
18: 7Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! Occasions for stumbling are bound to come, but woe to the one (anthrōpos) by whom the stumbling block comes!
18: 12What do you think? If a man (anthrōpos) has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?
18: 23"For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king man (anthrōpos) who wished to settle accounts with his slaves.
19: 3Some Pharisees came to him, and to test him they asked, "Is it lawful for a man (anthrōpos) to divorce his wife for any cause?"
19: 5and said, 'For this reason a man (anthrōpos) shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?
19: 6So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one (anthrōpos) separate."
19: 10His disciples said to him, "If such is the case of a man (anthrōpos) with his wife, it is better not to marry."
19: 12For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men (anthrōpos), and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can."
19: 26But Jesus looked at them and said, "For men (anthrōpos) it is impossible, but for God all things are possible."
19: 28Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man (anthrōpos) is seated on the throne of his glory, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
20: 1"For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner man (anthrōpos) who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.
20: 18"See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man (anthrōpos) will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death;
20: 28just as the Son of Man (anthrōpos) came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many."
21: 25Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of men (anthrōpos)?" And they argued with one another, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
21: 26But if we say, 'Of men (anthrōpos),' we are afraid of the crowd; for all regard John as a prophet."
21: 28"What do you think? A man (anthrōpos) had two sons; he went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work in the vineyard today.'
21: 33"Listen to another parable. There was a landowner man (anthrōpos) who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenants and went to another country.
22: 2"The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king man (anthrōpos) who gave a wedding banquet for his son.
22: 11"But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man (anthrōpos) there who was not wearing a wedding robe,
22: 16So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard men (anthrōpos) with partiality.
23: 4They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of men (anthrōpos); but they themselves are unwilling to lift a finger to move them.
23: 5They do all their deeds to be seen by men (anthrōpos); for they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long.
23: 7and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, and to have men (anthrōpos) call them rabbi.
23: 13"But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you lock people out of the kingdom of heaven. For you do not go in yourselves, and when men (anthrōpos) are going in, you stop them.
23: 28So you also on the outside look righteous to men (anthrōpos), but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
24: 27For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man (anthrōpos).
24: 30Then the sign of the Son of Man (anthrōpos) will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see 'the Son of Man (anthrōpos) coming on the clouds of heaven' with power and great glory.
24: 37For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man (anthrōpos).
24: 39and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man (anthrōpos).
24: 44Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man (anthrōpos) is coming at an unexpected hour.
25: 14"For it is as if a man (anthrōpos), going on a journey, summoned his slaves and entrusted his property to them;
25: 24Then the one who had received the one talent also came forward, saying, 'Master, I knew that you were a harsh man (anthrōpos), reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter seed;
25: 31"When the Son of Man (anthrōpos) comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory.
26: 2"You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man (anthrōpos) will be handed over to be crucified."
26: 24The Son of Man (anthrōpos) goes as it is written of him, but woe to that one (anthrōpos) by whom the Son of Man (anthrōpos) is betrayed! It would have been better for that one (anthrōpos) not to have been born."
26: 45Then he came to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man (anthrōpos) is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
26: 64Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, From now on you will see the Son of Man (anthrōpos) seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven."
26: 72Again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man (anthrōpos)."
26: 74Then he began to curse, and he swore an oath, "I do not know the man (anthrōpos)!" At that moment the cock crowed.
27: 32As they went out, they came upon a man (anthrōpos) from Cyrene named Simon; they compelled him to carry his cross.
27: 57When it was evening, there came a rich man (anthrōpos) from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus.
